Make Time for You – Reduce Stress

From August 1 – August 28 – Make time to focus on yourself and see what a difference it can make in your life. Registration is open from Monday, July 17th through Friday, August 4th. 

The 28-Day activity is a wellness activity for all benefits-eligible Washington University faculty, staff, clinical fellows, and postdoctoral appointees. Our goal is to help you de-stress and feel more resilient in your daily life by bringing awareness to the signs and symptoms of distress and connecting employees with the resources available to them through the university.

To participate in the 28-Day activity:

  1. Login to your WashU WebMD Portal through our website or Wellness At Your Side mobile app.
  2. Click on the “Stress Less” icon on your Portal home page.
  3. Register as an individual and continue to track your stress management efforts.
  4. Earn rewards!

How it Works

Participants are encouraged to complete 5 minutes of a relaxing, enjoyable activity of their choosing each day throughout the 28-day endeavor.

Those who meet the minimum participation requirement by recording “Yes” or “No” for at least 21 of 28 days will be awarded 5 Yay! points towards a Wellness Connection Rewards gift card. Those who are active for at least 21 days and recorded “Yes” for at least 14 days will be entered into a raffle for a one in ten chance of winning a $25 Wellness Connection Rewards gift card. Winners of the raffle drawing will be announced in September once Stress Less has officially closed.

Making the Time to Focus on You

Stress can have surprising effects on overall health; from the way we think and feel to the way we eat and behave. There are lots of ways stress can affect you, but you can have a major effect on your stress, too. Taking as little as 5 minutes for yourself to unwind each day can make a difference. There are lots of ways to relieve stress—what works for you is what’s important. Try stretching, meditating, or doing something you enjoy. Focus on yourself during Stress Less and see what a difference it can make in your life.

Reducing stress is easier said than done, so throughout Stress Less you’ll be provided tips and activities to help you stay on track. Track your relaxation progress and get helpful tips in your WebMD Portal or through the mobile app.

Important Dates

  • Stress Less takes place August 1 – August 28. Registration is open from Monday, July 17th through Friday, August 4th.
  • To participate, you must register online and begin recording your daily relaxation activity by Friday, August 4th. If you opt out after August 4th, you will not be able to re-enroll.
  • Starting on Monday, August 1st, participants can begin recording their daily relaxation activities. Participants have until Friday, September 1st to record all “Yes” or “No” entries.

Frequently Asked Questions for Stress Less

Stress Less is designed to help you take steps toward positive stress management. Take five minutes for yourself each day, and have fun while learning tips and techniques to mitigate stress.
Register in your WebMD Portal between July 17, 2017 and August 4, 2017. Stress Less takes place between August 1- August 28. We encourage you to record whether you took five minutes for a stress management activity each day, to stay on track towards reaching the goal of at least 14 days of stress relief activities.
Stress Less officially ends August 28, 2017. You must have a minimum of 21 days of entries on the WebMD Portal by no later than September 1, 2017, to successfully earn your reward and have your data count.
Participation in Stress Less is on an individual level, so there will be no teams. We do encourage you to involve your colleagues: engage in some friendly competition or find ways to motivate one another.
All benefits-eligible faculty staff, clinical fellows, and postdoctoral appointees are eligible to participate and earn rewards and prizes. Although only benefits-eligible employees can participate through their WebMD Portal, we encourage you to get friends and family involved. It’s a great opportunity to work on wellness together!
To access Stress Less from your mobile device: Download the free app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. Use the special “access key” to log in. You’ll find this key on your WashU WebMD Portal. Click on the “Syncing” weblet from your home page, which will take you to your Device and App Connection Center. Then click on “Wellness at Your Side”. Log in using your WebMD Health Manager username and password. Click into Stress Less from the homepage. There are lots of ways to relieve stress – doing what works for you is what’s important. You can try exercising, meditating, or controlled breathing. Here are some other ideas: Stretch to ease muscle tension; Get outside and soak in the outdoors; Exercise; Take a quick walk; Take deep breaths; Laugh; Set realistic goals; Do a breathing exercise; Close your eyes for a few minutes; Find the sun; Meditate; Get a good book and read; Listen to music, a podcast, or audiobook; Pet your pet; Do yoga or yoga poses; Keep a journal or diary; Ask for help; Do something you enjoy; Give yourself a hand massage; Rub your feet over a golf or tennis ball; Squeeze a stress ball; Take a few minutes to organize your personal space.
You will not be eligible for the 5 Yay! participation points or the raffle drawing.
When you complete Stress Less: You will earn 5 Yay! points for achieving the Participation Goal (entering a “Yes” or “No” response for 21 of the 28 days). You will be entered into a raffle drawing for a one in ten chance of winning a $25 Wellness Connection gift card for achieving the Daily Goal (recording “Yes” to taking 5 minutes for stress relief on at least 14 days). *To be eligible for the Daily Goal reward, a participant must meet the Participation Goal.
Results will be announced in September upon close of Stress Less.
